Biodiesel from Jatropha
Curcas :
The seeds harvested from jatropha
plant are crushed with the help of a expeller to extract
the oil. The oil content of the seeds vary from 30 - 35
%. The extracted oil is then trans-esterified to convert
the Jatropha oil to pure bio-diesel as given below.
Jatropha oil is blended with
alcohol and catalyst mixture in transesterification reactor.
The reactor is kept at reaction temperature for specific
durationwith vigorous agitation. After reaction, the biodiesel
and glycerol mixture is sent to the glycerolsettling tank.
The crude biodiesel is collected and washed to get pure
biodiesel. Depending upon the need, the size of the unit
can be scaled up to get higher production capacity.
Oil extraction machineries
are also available with us in small/medium/large scale processing
capacities. large scale projects can employ machineries
using solvent extraction techniques while the small scale
farmers can use machineries with simple mechanical pressing
methods which will be less expensive than the former one.
